Volunteer With Us!
We invite you to join the volunteer team for Mahaska County Conservation!
There are many ways you can become involved as a volunteer and help make a positive difference in our county parks, facilities and educational programs. It is simple to do! Complete and return the volunteer application form that is attached to a copy of the Volunteer Handbook and attend a training session if indicated. Once you are signed up as a volunteer, you will receive emails about volunteer opportunities by email.

Volunteer Opportunities:
- Environmental Learning Center Hosts - This volunteer position helps greet visitors at the ELC. We will plan a schedule around your available hours and our open hours of operation. You will need to complete a volunteer training session and background check to be an ELC Host.
- Park Stewards - This volunteer position allows you to "adopt" one or more Mahaska County Conservation areas and become stewards of those natural areas. This program allows the freedom to work according to your own schedule and interests with the guidance of MCCB staff. All training, tools, equipment, and expertise necessary for volunteers to carry out stewardship duties are provided by MCCB. You will need to complete a volunteer training session to become a Park Steward.
- Environmental Education Volunteer - This volunteer position helps the naturalist with educational programs, field trips and public events. There are endless opportunities all year long! You will need to complete a volunteer training session and background check to be an Environmental Education Volunteer.
Other volunteer opportunities: (this list is updated as needs arise)
- Help feed birds at the ELC bird feeders
- Help feed educational animals at the ELC
- School field trip volunteers in October 2023
- Halloween Bashat Eveland Access event on June 3 (help with carnival games, , parking and directing vehicles, hand out voting ballots during auto tour, give out candy)
- Youth Outdoor Field Day (help with activities, registration, set up/take down)
