Volunteer Training
If you are looking for volunteer opportunities, then join the volunteer team for Mahaska County Conservation! There are many things volunteers can do for us:
* ELC Host (greet visitors)
* Environmental Education program assistant
* Park Steward (park projects, litter clean up, etc.)
* Help with live animal care at the ELC
and more!
A volunteer training is scheduled for Tuesday, April 2 from 5:30-6:30 pm at the Environmental Learning Center. Just in time for great projects this spring and summer! All ages are welcome to participate.

Per MCCB policy, new volunteers are asked to go through the training, complete a volunteer application form and pass a background check. Volunteer training is needed once every three years.

Coffee Club at the ELC
Join us at Mahaska County Conservation's monthly "Coffee Club at the ELC" on Friday, April 5th from 9:00-10:00 am. Homemade refreshments will be served along with hot chocolate and freshly brewed coffee.
At the Coffee Club, we have a great time visiting and learning about fascinating things about nature and MCCB. Bring a coffee cup and fill it with our fresh, hot brewed coffee.
Do you have a coffee cup that has a special story behind it? If so, bring it and we can share coffee cup stories!

Homeschool Science Lab "Fossil Hunting"
The Mahaska County Conservation Board invites homeschool and online school families to the monthly Homeschool Science Lab on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 pm to go on a fossil dig at the Russell Wildlife Area.
Kids will learn how Russell Wildlife Area was once a rock quarry and is now a great place to enjoy nature and find fossils. All supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. Hand trowels work great!

OWLS Lunch & Learn "Maple Syruping"
The Mahaska County Conservation Board invites adults of any age to the O.W.L.S. (Older, Wiser, Livelier Souls) program on Friday, April 19th from 11:30 am -12:30 pm at the Mahaska County Environmental Learning Center.

This month, Naturalist, Laura DeCook, will talk about tapping trees and making homemade maple syrup.
Save some room after lunch to sample maple syrup with ice cream! Feel free to eat lunch during the program - so bring a lunch and a friend.

Eveland Access Summerfest 2024
The Eveland Access Summerfest event is hosted through the partnership between Mahaska County Conservation and the Muse Music Store.
We are excited to be gearing up for the 5th annual Eveland Access Summerfest on Saturday, June 1, 2024!
Together we provide an annual music festival held at the Eveland Access Campgrounds, located right next to the Des Moines River. You´ll find several music acts with different genres of music from noon-10 pm, great local food, bags and volleyball tournaments, and BINGO for everyone to enjoy.
